Courses Conducted
Over the years, the function of the Scout Ranger Training School expanded with the introduction of new specialization courses into the training program of the Philippine Army. These are the Combat Tracking Course, Scout Sniper Course, Pekiti-Tirsia-Kali Course and Physical Trainer’s Training Course. The said courses are focused on the enhancement of the combat skills of the individual soldier.
Scout Ranger Course
Scout Ranger Course is the first course conducted by the school for several decades. Currently, the Philippine Army is requiring four classes per year with a student quota of 175 per class.
This is a 32 week course divided into four phases. The first phase is the individual Training Phase; followed by the Small Unit Training Phase; The third phase is the Combat Maneuuver and the final phase is the Test Mission, where the class shall be deployed in actual combat for more or less 45 days.
Scout Sniper Course
Currently the SSC is conducted by the SRTS for six (6) months, including the Test Mission which is subject to extension by the higher headquarters. The Scout Sniper Course is primarily focused on developing selected personnel to be capable of delivering discriminatory highly accurate rifle fire against enemy targets, which cannot be engaged successfully by the ordinary rifleman because of range, size, location, fleeting nature, or visibility. The training incorporates a wide variety of subjects designed to increase the value of a sniper as a force multiplier and to ensure his survival in the battlefield.
Combat Tracking Course
The Combat Tracking Course is a 45-day training offered to all personnel of the AFP. Lecture, Demonstration, and Practical Exercises are the methods of instruction. Knowledge in tracking will be an advantage to the individual soldier, as it will enhance their ability to detect and gather information of enemy activities in a particular area.
Scout Ranger Orientation Course (SROC)
This is a 45-day course aimed at orienting the students on the TTPs and SOPs of the Scout Ranger Operations. While it is recommended that students shall take the regular SR course, the SROC could at least give the soldiers enough idea on how to do it in the field, as far as counter-insurgency is concerned.
Before, only the organic personnel of the FSRR were required to take the SROC; however, in 2012, the SND directed the AFP to require all new officers and soldiers to undergo the SROC.
Pekiti Tersia Kali
The PTK Course, also known as Edged-Impact Weapon/CQC Tactical Combat is a 45-day training offered to all qualified personnel of the AFP. This course is a combative skills program in closed quarter combat tactical system which provides the students with complete strategies, tactics and skills for the use of empty hand and edged weapons.
The PTK is the only system in existence today that fully integrates individual combat weaponry (bolo, knife, and bayonet) and empty hands. The training programs incorporates both aerobic and anaerobic exercises and drills that provide enhanced upper and lower body, muscular endurance and combat fitness for the operator.
Rapel Master Course
This is a 45-day course offered by the SRTS. Expected to dominate operations in the jungle and mountainous terrain, the scout rangers are expected to develop higher level of mastery on knots and climbing ropes and technques. A special course was establish in the SRTS in order to maintain the competencies of trainors to conduct ropes, knots and mountaineering instructions to students of the SRTS.
As of now it is considered as an in-service training funded by the Philippine Army and participated by the different units including the SFS, DTS, BJMP and others.
Physical Training Tranor's Course
